The Rest of April

April 27th: Went to Nelson's. Bought flat plus 3 of annuals: 5 gomphrena, 9 prof orange zinnias, 3 asclepias Silky Gold, 3 currassavica, 2 pentas, 3 coleus). Bought flat of herbs: golden sage, golden oregano, Archer's Gold Lemon Thyme. 1 sedum. Planted just about all of those on south side. Transplanted Indian Blankets to River Birch bed. Dug up 2 Lion's Ears/Leonotis; put on south side, one on David's side of RB, one by front wall. Came in because heavy rain caught me! Thundering as I typed. Cul-de-sac flooded from late afternoon until 6ish. Streets flooded too.

April 28th: I thought yesterday was bad, it was nothing compared to the early morning storm. Laverton looked like a fast-flowing river. Water was over the rocks at left of gate in front. Worst flooding ever. Master bedroom and my closet had water. Storage closet/atrium had moisture in southwest corner. Pulled up carpet and pad in closet, hauled out.

April 29th: Worked WPL.

April 30th: Waiting on Andy & his guys to come remove carpet in MBR. Carpet Giant salesman will come over this afternoon to measure & show samples.

April 2nd through 25th, Yikes!

April 2-3: Rained here Thurs morning, then clear the rest of the day. Somerville, Round Top, Warrenton. Bought one birdhouse, several items from Texas Trash booth.

April 4: Courtyard renovation begun. Decided to remove aggregate from fence to door. Puttered outside. One goldfinch at feeder.

April 5: 29 mph wind gusts. This is getting really old. Planted 11 Gulf Coast Muhly from Lowe's (2.49/pot) along garage wall in place of miscanthus.

April 6: 2 goldfinches at feeder.

April 7: WHITE SPIDERWORT is blooming! How did it get over there by Carefree Beauty & Cecile Brunner? Worked on rock border in front. Wish I were better at choosing rock. Hawk w/blue jay.

April 8: Worked on dry stream bed and rock wall all day. Not what I envisioned.

April 9: ???

April 10: More dry stream bed work. More rock wall work. Worked on sidewalk rocks.

April 11: Mexican Buckeye in front split due to wind/rain, one branch split down to trunk. Walking iris blooming under Persian Vitex in back. Oakleaf hydrangea budding.

April 12: Easter. Rain, really hard & big thunder around 11:15.

April 13: 1100 lbs of rock picked up & unloaded. Flagstone, moss rock. Columbines under willow oak were too root bound to do a thing. Dug them up, loosened roots, replanted.

April 14: Rocks again.

April 15: Dr's appt in a.m. Went by Nelson's, bought a fern, a sedum & a bog plant. Worked in front after 3.

April 16: Finally broke down & called Edgar at Natural Springs Landscaping to work on the dry stream. He came by & gave bid. I laid flagstone path in front of gate by David's. Looks good!

April 17: Stormy afternoon. Met Linda & Nancy at Panera, then went to Jerry's Jungle. Bought purple leaved cotton plant, Manfreda, variegated Oxalis. Not impressed with his stuff, though. Shoot, if he can sell stuff that looks like that, I should do it!

April 18: MG Spring Sale. Rain started around 9, lasted all day. Torrential at times. Cul-de-sac flooded, most of streets in front of neighborhood did. Took me a while to get home. Water was mid-calf in street, Wickham. Had to take alleys to make it home.

April 19:

April 20:

April 21: Edgar's guys came & did dry stream bed. Raked rocks up by trellis. Good grief, I had no idea there were so many.

April 22: Earth Day. I worked at WPL all day.

April 23:

April 24:

April 25: I pulled weeds from the rose bed. Pulled up spent bluebonnets & shook out seeds. Oh, crud, tub is outside getting wet. Gotta put it in garage.

The Rest of March

Thursday 3/19: Worked in front garden. Dug esperanza, potted up & put on driveway. Pruned red Bauhinia. Foggy again. Jose Rodriguez here to look at courtyard & patios.

Friday, 3/20: No fog. Returned shovel from Gardener's Supply. Didn't work in my soil. Bought 2 at Lowe's: ended up returning one. Drain spades work better than broad shovels.

Saturday, 3/21: Justin cleaned pond. I worked on watering a few spots & then puttered around near the trellis.

Sunday, 3/22: Pond losing water big time. Took Mom to EG & Farmers' Market. Bought 2 succulents, Phlox, 2 Bacopa at EG. Love Chinese fringe tree but where could I put it?

Monday 3/23: First copper iris bloom! TTGG post. Very windy. Buds on yellow daylily. This was 1st one last year, too. Pumps off on pond, refilled. Watch to see what happens. Worked on digging Miscanthus to give away. Mostly lifted them a bit.

Tuesday 3/24: Gulf Coast penstemon opening. No water loss with both pumps off in pond. Turned on bog pump.

Wednesday, 3/25: Worked MG phones. Have taker for Miscanthus. Rained a bit late evening.

Thursday 3/26: Worked in front. Pruned Mx Turk's Cap, moved some sweetspires/igneas/hamelias. Rain in late afternoon and on into the evening. Nice amount.

Friday 3/27: Worked outside in morning. Dug clerodendron vine & planted behind sinojackia.
Moved one calliandra. Put Murraya in pot. Marie Pavie in pot. Brief thunderstorm, big thunder. Hi, MBK! MCOK post.

Saturday 3/28: Windy and a little chilly. Put red pepper flakes in birdseed. Does seem to deter squirrels but birds seem to avoid feeders too.
Pruned Persian Vitex some. Worked on garden closet. Hung yard art on trellis (alley side).

Sunday 3/29: Bridge party in afternoon.

Monday 3/30: Dug walking iris. They need more water and less sun than they got in that spot. Potted some up, have some in holding. Need to tell MGs. Vikki Koss came & got Miscanthus. Bloom opened on daylily!

Tuesday 3/31: Went looking for Gulf Coast Muhly. None at Home Depot/Fry, Ashley Gardens. Don't think Lowe's had them. Called APIT & Joshua's. Latter will try to order. Arbor Gate never called back. Lindheimeri or capillaris, which do I want?

Wednesday 4/1: Not going to do a danged thing, just veg out & watch talk shows/soap operas! (note date)
